Meet the Director: Tyra Wimpye
Tyra Wimpye is an accomplished theatre educator and director with a deep-rooted passion for the arts. She began her theatrical journey as a student at Gainesville High School, where she was an active member of the renowned Troupe 2445, under the direction & mentorship of the legendary Pam Ware. Her time with Troupe 2445 ignited her love for theatre and provided the foundation for her future career.

After graduating from Gainesville High School, Tyra attended Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia, where she further honed her artistic skills. Upon completing her studies, she earned her teaching certification and dedicated herself to fostering young talent in the field of theatre.
Her leadership has been marked by a commitment to nurturing creativity, discipline, and teamwork among her students, producing exceptional performances that continue to leave a lasting impact on the community.

Today, Tyra is back at her alma mater, serving as the Theatre Director of the Gainesville High School Theatre Department/Troupe 2445. She brings her wealth of experience, love for the craft, and personal connection to the school and its legacy, inspiring a new generation of students to discover and develop their artistic identity.

I am proud to lead this amazing theatre program. I am proud of my performers, production team, and our Herd of Support for embracing every part of theatre at Gainesville High School. I hope that everyone sees the impact of supporting the theatre arts and believing in the performers on and off the stage. Please continue to be a committed audience member throughout the next seasons and watch how even your darkest days brighten when in the theater. Not because of the lights, but because of the people.
